Hello Everybody -- we're so glad to see you!

Did you know that all children are musical?  Have you ever wondered what you can do to nurture the musical growth of your child, regardless of your own musical ability?  Every week in our music classes at Codabugs Music Together, babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them come together to play musically. Little ones love playing along in class, and caregivers love being a part of their children’s growth into confident music-makers. And everyone loves our songs that’ll have you tapping along in no time. Music Together® is the perfect family activity in Leduc! Sign up to visit a class and see why we’re so excited to make music with you. Mixed age, Babies Only and Intergenerational Classes are offered weekly at our three Leduc locations. Check out our schedule to find the best class time for your family. Download the “Hello Everybody” app from the App Store or on Google Play today!

FALL 2020 Registration NOW OPEN!

Thank you so much for your patience as we navigate these uncharted waters of Covid-19!

We wrapped up our Spring Semester of Music Together Online in June, and overall, we feel it was a success!  Children were able to enjoy singing, dancing and musical play with their families at home, in much the same way as they do in our classes.  We had a few challenges, and there are some things we are planning to do differently for online delivery this fall, but we were so happy to be able to provide the program that families have come to love and trust, and bring some familiarity to these strange times.  A special thank you to the families who chose to give it a try, despite not knowing quite what it would look like!  Your trust and support has meant so much to me in sustaining my small business and allowing me to continue doing this work that I love!

Earlier this summer, I scheduled both online and tentative in-person classes with the hope that our growing knowledge about Covid-19 would allow us to confidently continue with in-person classes for those who felt ready.  With our start date of September 22 approaching, I have been agonizing over whether I could go ahead with in-person classes.  I reached out to Alberta Health Services to clarify some concerns with regard to singing in enclosed spaces with protective measures.  Their answer included this paragraph:

“The Government of Alberta has developed guidance documents to support the safe reopening of a wide variety of sectors.  Music lessons may proceed in stage 2 so long as all participants follow the social distancing protocols.  However, at this time, in person group singing and wind instrument lessons should not take place. These are considered high-risk activities for Covid-19 spread because infected individuals who participate are more likely to spread infection through their respiratory droplets or aerosols.  If possible, singing and wind instrument lessons could be delivered remotely.”

I have been aware of a few studies in progress re: singing and wind instruments over the summer, and some of them have had encouraging results saying that singing is no riskier than talking, but unfortunately, clear science hasn’t caught up with us yet.  As much as I am confident that we could offer a small, safe, physically-distanced music class, I regret to inform you that our in-person offering is cancelled for this fall and we will be exclusively online for the semester.  The good news is that learning happens online, too!

Online Classes:

Our online offering this fall for Mixed Ages will include one Facebook Live class and one interactive Zoom class per week, each 20-25 minutes long.  We are also offering the Babies Only curriculum, exclusively for children 8 months and under, which will consist of a once-weekly 40-minute Zoom class.

To further enrich your family's experience, we will upload additional video content to the private FB group each week, which may include single song activities, singalong storybooks, musical crafts, lullabies.  Parent Education "shorts" will help you to understand how the class activities are helping your children to build a strong musical foundation, and how you can reinforce the learning during your day.

FB Live classes will be recorded and will remain within our private Bongos group, and families can choose to join the live class, and/or can view it at a later time, even watch it multiple times!  Repetition is great for children and truly helps them to learn music fundamentals, and as they become more familiar with the music, and with your direct participation, you will likely find they engage better in the class...yes, even online.

Wait...More Screen Time?

We know screen time isn't generally recommended for this age group, but here's the difference:  YOU!  When children stare at a screen and passively receive information, they don't absorb it in the same way nor do they learn in the same way as when they have the active participation of a parent or close caregiver.  SO, just like in our in-person classes, YOU are still the most important part.  Your teacher will be on the screen, children might see their classmates on the screen (depending on which platforms we're using), but it is truly the interaction of the parent/caregiver with the child that is going to continue their music development and help them to engage with the activities!  In fact, you might even choose to keep the screen visible only to you as you and your child play with the music (this is what we'll suggest for a Babies Only class).  We will also give you lots of fun activities and ideas to do at home while we're all looking for WHAT to do!

Please let me encourage you to think of this offering as a way to connect with your child, your teacher and with others. We need each other during this time. We need music. We need something on the schedule!  We can still be silly, interactive and playful “together” online while your child internalizes basic music fundamentals through the award-winning Music Together program!  We hope to see you and your little one(s) in a virtual class this fall!

With the Bongos Collection, you and your child will groove to the African beat of "Funga Alafia," dance to a jazzy rendition of "Hey Diddle Diddle," go "Walking Through the Woods," and play some "Tricks with Sticks!" There are twenty-five songs to delight your family! In addition to weekly classes, your tuition includes recordings and materials for you to use at home and online access to the songs through the Hello Everybody app. Join us for this session and fill your family's fall with music, fun and friendship!

New Songbook!

The new edition of the Bongos family songbook series is debuting this fall! Each song is brought to life through colorful and engaging illustrations by award-winning artist Jaime Kim and children's book illustrator Gerald Kelley. The new book will inspire your family to play with music all week long. You'll find it helpful to learn the lyrics, as a jumping-off point for creative storytelling, and to learn more about the songs you're singing in class. Your child may enjoy snuggling with you and singing through the whole book at once—or opening to a page to tell you what song they want to sing!
